Are you looking for comfort for yourself or a loved one following a cancer diagnosis?
Comfort is an important part of healing. Many people who are diagnosed with cancer, or another serious illness, feel overwhelmed and even out of control.
It was important to Caryn, e3’s founder and a cancer survivor, to share how essential oils can be used to offer a sense of momentary comfort to those who are dealing with illness. Caryn went through treatment for ovarian cancer in 2006. After being diagnosed, Caryn knew that she wanted to design and personalize her approach to health with a variety of therapies. She chose a team of people including specialists in oncology, nutrition, bodywork and used her own expertise as a Certified Aromatherapist.
When Caryn was too fatigued after surgery and then as her chemotherapy treatments continued taking a shower or even a calming bath seemed too much, she decided to fill a beautiful bowl with warm water, add a few drops of essential oil, dip in the cloth, wring it slightly, take a deep breath and apply to her skin where ever it felt good. In doing so, she experienced a shift in her mood and feelings of calm and comfort. “I called it my Comfort Bowl and it served as an important element to help me get back to my center, emotionally. So many things were out of my control, and this was something I could choose to use anytime, and it always helped.”
“Scents of Comfort” is a product line Caryn has developed to help cancer patients, and others dealing with serious illness, find moments of comfort. Since people respond to scents very differently because of their own preferences, body chemistry and health, we recommend the Scents of Comfort Kit Sampler if you’re unsure which scents will be most soothing. How to Use “Scents of Comfort”
Find a beautiful bowl to use since most likely you will leave it out for easy access. Fill the bowl with water. Choose a temperature that feels comfortable to you. Warm or cool.
Choose the essential oil that smells best to you in that moment. Add 1-5 drops in the water. The amount is up to you, but we suggest you start with 1 drop and see how it makes you feel. The more drops, the stronger the aroma. We recommend using only one essential oil at a time. “The simpler, the better.”
With the tip of your finger, agitate the water to mix in the essential oil. Dip the cloth in the water and wring gently. Gently apply the cloth to your face (keep your eyes closed), neck, chest, shoulders, upper back, arms, hands, legs, and/or feet. Dip, wring, and apply as many times that feels good to you. The soft, moist, aromatic cloth applied to the skin, can create a respite for your mind and body.
“The bowl was so beautiful, it was a welcome distraction.”
