Aromatherapy Inhalers for Instant Stress Relief
Written by Caryn Gehlmann
UPDATED APRIL 2020. We’re updating this post because with the current health crisis many are under unprecedented stress and could benefit from using aromatherapy inhalers to maintain their resilience.
e3’s personal aromatherapy inhalers are reusable, travel inhalers that makes it easy to take your aromatherapy wherever you go. Why are these aromatherapy inhalers so beneficial? Because they allow you to use the scent that personally offers you the best stress relief and take it with you to use whenever and wherever you are! These sleek, compact, aluminum and glass inhalers are are available in stylish blue, pink, or silver. Each inhaler is 3.5” long – a little larger than a chapstick tube – and can easily be tucked into pockets, purses, backpacks and more for a quick aromatherapy moment when you need it.
Aroma is therapy! Aromatherapy, at its core, is the use of scent to promote physical, psychological, and emotional balance. Our sense of smell is 10,000 times more sensitive than our sense of taste, and works directly with the limbic system, which controls our basic emotions, behavior, long-term memory, and smell. The limbic system stores and interprets emotional significance associated with different aromas to trigger behavioral responses in our bodies. If you’ve ever noticed a certain aroma calms you down, or puts you “on guard”, this is your limbic system at work.
Breathing in essential oils introduces the chemical components of each oil to the olfactory nerves in the nasal cavity, where each molecule reacts with specific nerve receptors, sending messages directly to the limbic system. Inhalation is often the quickest, most effective way to trigger the intended effects in your body with essential oils. Using an essential oil inhaler can help with anxiety, congestion, and respiratory irritations, mood enhancement at work, concentration in school, and so much more. (e3’s Resilience Blend is a current favorite as it was designed to offer physical, mental, and emotional resilience in the wake of COVID-19.)
How to make your own Aromatherapy Inhaler
You can fill each one with the essential oil or blend of your choice: Add 10-20 drops of essential oil to the empty glass vial, and then insert the 100% cotton wick. It is normal for some oil to remain unabsorbed in the bottom of the vial. The wick will slowly absorb the remaining oil over time. Screw the glass vial into the bottom of the smelling cap, then insert the vial and cap into the larger aluminum tube. Place the cap on top, and toss the completed aromatherapy inhaler in your pocket, bag, car or drawer.
To refill, take the essential oil inhaler apart and remove the wick with tweezers. If you’re refilling with the same oil or blend, you can re-use the same wick. If you want to use a new oil or blend, use a fresh wick. Extra wicks come in packs of 10 on essentialthree.com.
To use on the go, simply remove the cap, hold the end under your nose, and take a deep breath. Because the cotton core holds the essential oils inside the inhaler, there’s no concern of getting the oils on your skin. This makes the spill-proof inhaler an option for children ages 8 or older – they can smell as often as they like, without getting oil in their eyes or mouth.
