Essential Oil Trends — Aroma is Therapy
By Caryn Gehlmann, Clinical Aromatherapist
I like to take some time each year to reflect on what I’ve learned over the last year. I also think about what I want more of as the new year approaches. In this Q&A with Caryn, I hope you enjoy learning about essential oil trends and what we can look forward to as e3 adapts to what you need to support your health and well-being.
What essential oil trends are you seeing?
More and more people are looking for tools to help them deal with stress and anxiety. There is a range of products from weighted blankets, to CBD oil, to mindfulness games. Aromatherapy is another powerful “tool” to support comfort and ease. It’s not just about nice smells, it’s about positively supporting your emotional health.
There’s another interesting trend regarding the home fragrance market. A November 2023 Market Report expects it to reach $19.4 billion by 2030. In an article on Well + Good, they discuss the growing trend of consumers looking for a peaceful, relaxing environment through scent. People are starting to realize that our olfactory systems and brains are closely linked and certain smells can affect our mood. This is exciting news, however, a thoughtful approach is important when introducing scents into your home. Here are three questions you can ask yourself:
- How does this scent make me feel?
How does this scent affect others that share my space? Do my family, co-workers, and even pets benefit from the scent?
Am I using pure, chemical-free fragrances to protect the health and wellness of my family?
What is your theme for 2024?
This year my theme is Cultivating Comfort. It’s about being intentional yet realistic with my approach to care for myself and others. And it’s ongoing, just like cultivating a garden, you can nurture your sense of comfort and enjoy the benefits as you watch it grow.
One way to do so is to set the goal of pausing throughout the day when needed to rest, reset, and regroup. So many of us are caregivers and we can’t stop what we’re doing — we’re caring for our children, our parents, our spouse, our own health and wellness challenges, or all of the above. But we can all set the intention to cultivate comfort and calm with a simple pause.
Personally, I use this simple 3-step process for deep breathing…
Inhale…Bring yourself into the awareness of the present moment.
Pause….Enjoy the stillness.
Exhale… Release.
I also use an essential oil or blend in my aromatherapy inhaler that helps me to pause. This is about taking the time to know what are my “scents of well-being.” It can depend on the day, the challenge, and even the season but I know when I’ve found it because it elicits that “Ahhhhh” response. You’ll know it when you feel it, your whole body will respond!
Do you have any new blends or products in the works?
Yes, I’m so excited about our new essential oil Seasonal Blends. The idea is to help us tune in to nature’s rhythms. You’ve probably noticed that you’re drawn to different scents each season. That’s your body’s way of tuning in to nature.
Our seasonal blends celebrate what’s special and fun about each season.
Spring — renewing, floral, awakening scents
Summer — cooling, fun, vibrant scents
Winter — warming, nostalgic scents
Fall — snuggly, rich, mellow scents
We’ve just released our winter blends so bookmark this page as we continue to roll out new seasonal blends of essential oils. We’re having so much fun making them and we know you’ll have just as much fun using them. If you have any ideas for a seasonal blend, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re also working on new blends and a new design that will focus on maintaining overall balance — emotional, mental, and physical.
Tell us about your work with private labels. How has that evolved recently?
We’ve seen the benefits of tailoring our recommendations to fit the needs of each business that’s looking for a private-label partnership. We’ve updated our website to answer the most frequently asked questions on private labels. We have also found the best way to get started is to have a one-time, no-charge, twenty-minute phone consultation. This allows customers to tell us more about their projects and goals and to ask us any questions.
