Feel Brave, Step Out of Your Comfort Zone! EOs Help
By Caryn Gehlmann, Clinical Aromatherapist
How brave do you feel? When you’re in your comfort zone you might feel pretty brave and confident. But then there’s that one thing… that one area in your life where you feel “less than”, weak, unsure, or even anxious. That’s true of most of us and we may just try to avoid that thing that makes us uncomfortable. But what if you know deep in your heart that you shouldn’t ignore it any longer? Can essential oils really help you feel brave?
First, let’s be clear that feeling brave or courageous, isn’t being fearless. It’s about taking action in spite of the fear you’re facing. And, yes, essential oils can help. The right aromatherapy can elicit feelings of confidence and perseverance.
To feel brave, experiment and find the right essential oil scent that triggers memories of when, in the past, you boldly stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something new. The empowering aroma from essential oils will give you that same courage again. Here’s an interesting article on how scent and music empowered a man through different phases of his life.
Research also has shown that essential oils can help reduce anxiety so this is about making the situation feel more manageable! Aromatherapy can be a tool to help you out of your comfort zone, whether you feel like that’s a giant leap or a little tip-toe.
So you may be wondering, what is the essential oil or blend I need to use to feel brave? Because I want to…
ask my friend out on a real date,
or ______________.
If you’ve watched my Q&A videos or have read any of my other posts, you probably already know my answer. It depends. Everyone is different and our body responds to scents differently. So you need to find the essential oil or blend that makes you feel brave. But don’t worry, I’m going to share a few essential blends that many have found helpful as a starting point for you. Take a look at our sample policy if you want to try them out for yourself.
When you breathe in deeply, this blend can help your body relax and your mind clear. The feelings of confidence, perseverance, and heart-centered strength come from the Black Spruce and Ho Wood. But at the same time, you can enjoy the stress reduction of the Blue Tansy, and the emotional stability of the Frankincense.
This blend was created to help you reconnect and ground yourself when your mind (and body) is tense and distracted. I know it helps me tap into my inner confidence and joy. Nervous tension and worry can melt away with the bright scent of Orange. And the lovely combination of Patchouli and Ylang Ylang can address underlying lethargy, emotional coolness, and low libido.
This essential oil blend has Bergamot, FCF and Lemongrass to uplift your spirits, renew your energy, and remind you of your goals. Lavender can help calm anxiety and Peppermint often assists with mental fatigue. If you’re feeling a little too comfortable in your comfort zone and want to push yourself with a more intense exercise routine, or train for an event, this is a great blend to help you stay motivated.
Letting go of something we’ve been doing for years, even if deep down we know it’s for the best, can cause emotional, mental, and physical stress. This blend of essential oils can help minimize stress, empowering you to intentionally change your routine or behavior. With Balsam Peru to address emotional weakness, Clary Sage for nervous tension and emotional discomfort, and Frankincense for a restless mind and anxiety.
How to Apply Essential Oils When You Want to Feel Brave
After showering, mix 1-3 drops of your blend of essential oils with your choice of carrier oil or lotion. After lightly toweling dry, evenly spread your mixture over your legs, arms, and torso.
Throughout the day
Essential oil jewelry is not only attractive, but it’s also very useful, especially on days when you could use a morale booster. At e3, we have aromatherapy bracelets and earrings that gently diffuse the scent of your choice wherever you’re at.
Right before you face your fear
Inhalation is often the quickest, most effective way to trigger the intended effects in your body with essential oils. So if you’re looking to get a quick boost of courage you may want to carry your favorite blend in an aromatherapy inhaler. You can use the scent that helps you feel brave and take it with you to use whenever and wherever you are!
Before I go, just one last reminder to listen to how your body responds at the moment. There is no wrong answer, learn to listen to your nose and you’ll find a scent that makes you feel a little bit braver. And as Mary Anne Radmacher said, “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.”
