Emotional Balance, Subtle/Energetic
Heart-centered Aromatherapy Tips
By Caryn Gehlmann
I’ll be sharing some heart-centered aromatherapy in this month’s Just for the Smell of It column to help you find comfort. While the focus in February is often on romantic love, I encourage you to find a way to show yourself some love and compassion.
We’ve had some troubles over this past year. I loved this quote by Artemus Ward, “Trouble will come soon enough, and when he does come receive him as pleasantly as possible. The more amiably you greet him, the sooner he will go away.” How can you meet trouble amiably? Acknowledging how you really feel is often the first step. Are you sad, overwhelmed, afraid, tired…? Acknowledge the feeling and then choose to take the time you need to find a bit of comfort with aromatherapy.
Here are my 3 heart-centered aromatherapy tips:
#1 Get cozy and warm with aromatherapy.
I don’t know about you but just saying the word cozy helps me start feeling more relaxed. An easy way to get cozy is with e3’s Little Comfort Heart Pillow.™ This aromatherapy pillow comes with an herbal blend of Lavender, Marjoram, and Clove — a soothing herbal blend that is comforting rather than overpowering. All you need to do is heat it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes and it will provide approximately 45 minutes of soothing warmth for your neck, chest, hands, or feet.
Here’s a short video that shows you how easy this pillow is to use:
This pillow is a great way to help relieve physical aches and pains, promote deep restful sleep, or simply warm yourself on a chilly night. Tuck the pillow down by your feet for an extra treat!
It’s also a terrific gift for someone who needs some extra TLC, maybe recovering from an illness or a daughter or granddaughter dealing with her monthly cycle.
#2 Ground yourself with a blend that feels Ahhhh….
This tip is based on a question from a customer! Like I mentioned in my previous post, my goal is to share with you some of our responses to questions we get.
Question: I’m working on improving my self-love/compassion/confidence and wondering if you could recommend a blend? I love e3’s Be Calm for my toddler and got to thinking it’d be nice to have one focused on me.
Answer: I would love to share some thoughts about a blend since aromatherapy is a wonderful way to support emotional wellness. When we have a single or blend that really “speaks” to us then we tend to use it, whether in a spritzer, diffuser, roll-on, or inhaler. When we smell it, we get that moment to PAUSE as it elicits that Ahhhhh response, that’s a great thing! Not to mention that a deep breath is a great way to shift from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic response.
The key is to find a blend that resonates with you. What’s the best way to choose a blend? Do you know which scents you like the most? Citrus, florals, woodsy, earthy? Another thing to keep in mind is the scents we find heavenly today can change and shift based on, our cycles, weather, if we’re tired, if we’re hydrated, etc.
If you’d like to experiment with a few e3 blends or singles that speak to you (but you can’t be sure until you smell them) we do offer samples for $3.00 each. These samples are packaged in a glass dram, approximately 20-25 drops, and come with pipettes and odor strips. We include the pipettes and odor strips because it is an easy and affordable way to experiment with scents. You can add a drop to an odor strip and waft them under your nose to see which you like best, or even try combining a few of your favorites.
#3 Treat yourself with on-the-go diffusion.
When we think of diffusion, many of us think of a traditional diffuser you have to plug in and fill with water. But there are other simpler ways to add aromatherapy diffusion to your day. It can be something as simple as putting a drop of your favorite essential oil or blend on a tissue that you place in your pocket (or for us ladies, tuck into our bras).
Another lovely way to incorporate diffusion into your day is with one of our Lava Bead Minimalist Diffuser Bracelets. It comes with a small charm inscribed with the words JUST BREATHE. A gentle reminder that a deep breath can provide a moment of calm, quiet, comfort. The minimalist look, combined with the functionality of a diffuser, is a winning combo you can wear for casual and business settings! Our latest design, the Rose Quartz Bead Diffuser Bracelet, comes with your choice of one of three soothing blends.
