Aromatherapy in Practice: A Day with Rogue Community Health
By Caryn Lynn Gehlmann, Clinical Aromatherapist
There is something especially rewarding about sharing aromatherapy with people who spend their days caring for others.
I recently had the opportunity to spend the day with the team at Rogue Community Health, leading a series of hands-on aromatherapy classes designed to bring essential oil education out of the textbook and into everyday life.
Our conversations went well beyond simply asking, “What does this oil do?” We talked about how essential oils can be used thoughtfully and safely, why quality and appropriate application matter, and how something as simple as aroma can become an intentional part of a moment—to pause, reset, focus, or simply breathe.
And, of course, we blended.
Each participant had the opportunity to experience the oils firsthand and create something personal to take with them. That is always one of my favorite parts of teaching. Aromatherapy becomes much more meaningful when people can smell, explore, ask questions, and discover what resonates with them rather than simply being told what they should like.
What I enjoyed most about the day was the curiosity in the room—the questions, conversations, laughter, and willingness to explore.
After more than two decades working with essential oils, days like this remind me why I still love teaching. There is always another conversation to have, another question to explore, and another opportunity to help people understand how these remarkable plants can be used with knowledge, respect, and intention.
Thank you to Rogue Community Health for inviting me in and for creating the space for such an engaging day of learning, blending, and connection.
