Essential Oils for Teachers’ Support & Well-being
By Caryn Gehlmann
We’re highlighting our hardworking school teachers this month. Many find essential oils for teachers help them thrive as educators and give their very best to their students day in and day out. Teachers have tough challenges. Many are dealing with funding problems, a lack of staff, overcrowded classrooms, and helping children with serious emotional challenges.
Teachers know that burnout is a real concern so there’s a real need for self-care. How can essential oils help?
We spoke with a Family & Consumer Sciences teacher, who recommended several different ways teachers can use essential oils to support them to get through their busy day!
- Immunity Support – Kids get sick and often come to school sick, so teachers need to work hard to keep a strong immune system. Our teacher likes to use e3’s Protection, Cold and Sinus, and Immune blends during the school year. She diffuses, makes rollers, or uses the Protection blend to clean shared spaces. (See application methods for more ideas on how to use essential oils through your day.)
- Emotional Support – Sometimes teachers have a particularly tough day and need a pick me up. Our teacher likes to use e3’s Pick Me Up blend as a spritzer. She leaves it in the teacher planning center where any teacher who needs a bit of emotional support can spritz themselves and instantly feel more centered.
- Physical Support – As a Family & Consumer Sciences teacher (what we used to call Home Ec), she knows how great lavender essential oil works on burns so she likes to keep it handy. And she says many of her colleagues will use peppermint essential oil to soothe their headaches.
- Social Support – Essential oils can be the basis of thoughtful and personal gifts for fellow staff. Our teacher likes to make her own lip balm or sugar scrubs as gifts for colleagues for the holidays, as thank you gifts, or to encourage someone who might be going through a difficult time.
