Essentials Oils for Conducive Learning Environment
By Caryn Gehlmann, Clinical Aromatherapist

When you think of creating a conducive learning environment, what comes to mind? Maybe proper lighting, comfortable seating, or good acoustics. But one powerful element is often overlooked: the way the space smells.
(Pssst … .this information isn’t just for school-aged children. We all need focus-friendly environments, whether we’re working from home or at the office, learning a new skill, creating art, practicing music, or just wanting a clear mind.)
Educators who have worked with us know the power of scent when it comes to focus and calm, and we really value their input. In fact, the inspiration for our Alignment Blend came from two teachers searching for natural ways to help their students stay engaged and ready to learn. One teacher shared some studies* that showed promising results with certain essential oils helping prevent viral infection.
Why Scents Matter in Learning Spaces
Think about how a fresh citrus aroma can wake you up in the morning, or how a gentle floral note helps you relax. Certain essential oils can lift the mood, clear the mind, and even support immune health. That’s why we carefully selected Eucalyptus Globulus, Lemon, Geranium, Ravinstsara, and Orange Sweet for Alignment Blend to purify the air and promote a positive learning atmosphere.
When teachers first tested Alignment in their classrooms, the feedback was enthusiastic. Rebekah Lyons, a second-grade teacher in Georgia says, “I have two diffusers I use throughout the day and I’ve seen a huge difference with the kids since I’ve started incorporating aromatherapy. In the morning, they’re full of energy and it can be challenging to get them to calm down and focus. I use a blend Caryn sent me of Geranium and Lemon which is very sweet-smelling and helps the kids shift into learning.”
That phrase — “shift into learning” — beautifully captured what this blend is designed to do. We knew we had a winning blend for fostering a conducive learning environment!

Then it was time to come up with a name for this new blend. We realized that when we’re aligned we’re in a position to learn, grow, and flourish. Hence… Alignment Blend seemed perfect.
Anytime You Need Alignment
Any time a person needs a stronger sense of mind-body balance (in a yoga class, your home office, or a study session) this blend helps foster attention and presence. And as an air purifier, it makes shared spaces more inviting.
(Note: Always check your school district’s policy before diffusing oils in classrooms, and remember that essential oils are not a replacement for recommended public health practices.)
How You Can Use e3 Alignment Blend to Create a Conducive Learning Environment
Here are three simple ways to bring this blend into your daily routine:
Diffuse. Add a few drops to a diffuser in any space that allows it to set the tone for focus.
Spritz. Mix 30–60 drops in 4 ounces of water in a mister bottle. Shake well before use and spritz the air to create a welcoming environment. (Or get a pre-mixed spritzer).
Personal inhalation. Place a drop on a lava bead aromatherapy bracelet or use an aromatherapy inhaler, which is perfect for pockets, backpacks, or your desk drawer.
How to Transition to Calm After a Stimulating Day
Of course, the learning environment doesn’t stop when the final school bell rings. After a full day of stimulation, it can be tough for kids to settle down and tackle homework. This is where our Be Calm Blend shines.
With soothing oils like Roman Chamomile, Dill, Sweet Fennel, Lavender, and Red Mandarin, this blend helps smooth the transition from a busy day to a calmer evening rhythm. Diffusing Be Calm Blend in the background while children do homework can ease restlessness and help them refocus so they can get their assignments done.
For adults, it also supports shifting from “work mode” into family or home time with more patience. After a busy, highly stimulated day, our nervous system is still running fast. Thoughts are scattered, energy is restless, and our attention is split. Becoming calm and grounded helps us shift gears by:
- Settling the nervous system so we can slow down.
- Creating presence so we can show up for ourselves and others.
- Restoring balance between doing and being.
The simple act of taking a deep breath of Be Calm Blend signals the body to slow down, put away the rush of the day, and get in touch with yourself so you can be fully present when you get home.
