Spring Essential Oil Blends: Awaken the Possibilities!
By Caryn Gehlmann, Clinical Aromatherapist
Spring is the season of rebirth, renewal, inspiration and hope. That’s why I traveled north to visit Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm outside of Woodburn, Oregon to immerse myself in spring beauty. (I took these photos at their Festival. I love their story too!) Did you know that some tulips have wonderful fragrances and they vary between the different colors of tulips? It’s breathtakingly beautiful. But let’s get back to the topic at hand: spring essential oil blends…
You’ve probably noticed that you’re drawn to different scents each season. I’m going to share the behind-the-scenes inspiration for Spring Awakens, De Light, and Happy Heart, our spring essential oil blends. (Hint: Our Seasons of Comfort Blends aren’t primarily for the calendar season; they’re for the emotional impact you’re looking for.)
What is it that makes spring so inspirational? Here in the northern hemisphere, the extra sunshine and signs of dormant nature blooming again, makes us naturally feel a little more optimistic and inspired. We’re ready to get going and try new things It’s a golden opportunity to sset new intentions that support your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
The stories behind our spring essential oil blends
e3’s De Light Blend — A sunny reminder that it’s a new day
This might sound crazy but the inspiration for our new De Light blend is the movie Groundhog Day. I love that movie because it reminds me that every day you have a chance for a do-over. The combination of the grounding earthy aroma of Patchouli with uplifting citruses in this blend promotes a sense of conscious hope.
This blend helps cultivate comfort with a bright and cheerful aroma that…
- Helps you naturally transition into the longer days of spring.
- Makes it easier to think and feel more optimistic about tomorrow.
- Opens you up to new, creative solutions.
e3’s Spring Awakens — Capturing the creative inspiration of spring
This essential oil blend was formulated by one of our clinical aromatherapists and fellow spring-lover, Denise. Everyone knows Peppermint is Denise’s all-time favorite essential oil. So she used it, for its awakening energy, and then combined it with the calming influence of Lavender, the sweet, uplifting notes of Lemongrass, and the smooth, deep notes of Cedarwood.
This revitalizing springtime blend helps cultivate comfort as it…
- Gives you a creative spark or springtime inspiration.
- Invigorates you with more energy and zest to tackle a new project.
- Motivates you to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air.
e3’s Happy Heart Blend — Reawakening a joyful heart
As I took on more responsibilities in caregiving for my parents, I realized that carrying an extra load, even when we do it with love, can cause us to feel a little weighed down at times. So I decided to create a blend that would help me feel a little more “light-hearted” and “light in heart” even in tough moments.
I designed our Happy Heart Blend blend to encourage you to take deep, reviving breaths. Your literal heart and your figurative heart (aka emotional state) need oxygen. For me, I found the floral yet earthy scent was like a “breath of fresh air” as you breathe in the new and breathe out the old.
This spring essential oil blend helps cultivate comfort as it…
- Awakens your senses to a feeling of renewal.
- Encourages deeper breathing, one healthy breath at a time.
- Gently reconnects you with your heart center, especially if it feels a little heavy with anxiety or weary from grief.
Tips For Creating Your Own Spring Essential Oil Blend
Aromatherapy is a wonderful way to support emotional wellness and cultivate comfort. Maybe hearing these stories has inspired you to create your own signature blend of essential oils.
When we have a blend that really “speaks” to us then we tend to use it. When we smell it, we get that moment to PAUSE as it elicits that Ahhhhh response, that’s a good thing! Not to mention that a deep breath is a great way to shift from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic response.
The key is to find a blend that resonates with you. What’s the best way to choose a blend? Do you know which scents you like the most? Citrus, florals, woodsy, earthy? Another thing to keep in mind is the scents we find heavenly today can change and shift based on the season (like spring), our cycles, if we’re tired, if we’re hydrated, etc.
Remember that aromatherapy and essential oils can have both physical and emotional effects, so notice to how different blends make you feel. Be patient with yourself, have fun and soon you’ll be blending like a pro.
