Dilute Essential Oils: Perfect For the Way We Use Oils Every Day
By Caryn Gehlmann, Clinical Aromatherapist
Why does e3 carry dilute essential oils? Do they have the same therapeutic properties? Are they weaker in aroma and strength? Perhaps you haven’t been sure whether you should choose a dilute when you’ve seen both dilute essential oils and concentrated ones in our online store. We’d love to help you figure this out.
Some essential oils are very concentrated and precious. They’re precious for several reasons, which you can read about in our blog post: Precious Essential Oils Too Costly? Try e3 Dilutes. Essential 3 offers dilute essential oils so you can enjoy precious essential oils at a more affordable price. The essential oil is a 5% dilution in fractionated coconut oil. (Fractionated Coconut Oil doesn’t go rancid, has no aroma, and is non-greasy.)
Common Questions About Dilute Essential Oils
Is the aroma of a dilute oil different from that of an absolute essential oil?
The scent of a dilute is the same as a non-diluted essential oil, except it’s a softer, more gentle scent compared to the regular essential oil. You may notice it doesn’t project as strongly, but it still carries the same beautiful aromatic profile.
NOTE: While some of our dilute essential oils are from absolutes, like Jasmine Absolute and Rose Absolute, few of them are absolutes. Absolute refers to the process by which the essential oil is extracted. More about the four main extraction methods in a future blog post.
Is a dilute essential oil a weaker, less effective version?
Not at all. It’s more gentle, wearable, and accessible. The carrier oil does not change the chemistry of the essential oil. It’s still the same oil. Only the concentration per drop changes. A dilute is ideally designed for how we actually use oils in daily life.
Do dilute essential oils have the same therapeutic properties?
The therapeutic qualities are still present in a dilute. After all, it’s the same oil, just in a lower concentration. In many cases, this actually makes it more appropriate for direct skin application and everyday use.
Do you use the same, drop-for-drop proportion of a dilute in your blend recipes?
Because it’s already diluted, you may use a bit more compared to the essential oil if you’re looking for a stronger aroma. However, it’s not about using “twice as much” either. Your personal preference and how you’re using the dilute are the determining factors for how much dilute you’ll use. For example, a diffuser may require more dilute oil drops to achieve the aroma you desire. While a dilute is ready-to-use for direct skin application
