Experience a Zen Moment Anytime for a Deeper Calm
By Caryn Gehlmann
I’m thrilled to announce the release of our newest e3 blend — Zen. What does feeling “zen” mean to you? I like this definition by Merriam-Webster, “a state of calm attentiveness in which one’s actions are guided by intuition rather than by conscious effort.” We were inspired to create this new blend in response to the anxiety one of our e3 team members was feeling as she coped with some extra stressful family issues. Could you use a Zen moment too?
It can be difficult to tune in and listen to the intuition of our bodies in our often hectic or even high-stress daily lives. Our goal in blending was to awaken but not overwhelm the senses so we used only two essential oils — Clary Sage and Frankincense. The simplicity of this earthy blend, with just the slightest touch of fruity herbaceousness, provides a gentle mental, emotional, and spiritual uplift that’s grounding and calming without being sedating.
Let’s explore the two essential oils and how they help provide a deeper, zen moment state of calm.
Clary Sage is used therapeutically to help with stress, tension, mild depression, fear, panic, and lack of sense of well-being. Clary Sage contains approximately 60-70% Linalyl Acetate, making it one of the essential oils highest in this calming ester, known for stress-relieving and antidepressant properties. While it gives an uplift, it’s not an ungrounded one. Rather, it helps fatigue by deepening the breath that might feel shallow, tight, or constricted when we’re under stress.
Frankincense is used therapeutically to help with tense breathing, rapid breathing, shallow breathing, anxiety, stress, nervous tension, and restless mind. There is again… did you notice it helps deepen your breathing? For centuries, people have found the resinous, earthy, slightly fruity, warm, scent to be calming. Frankincense is often used for incense, meditation, yoga, and other spiritual grounding practices as it helps reconnect you to your intuition.
How can you use e3’s Zen blend to reach a deeper sense of calm?
Experience a Zen Moment Bath
Mix 4-8 drops of Zen blend in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil. Set aside. If you have muscle aches, add 1-2 cups Epsom or Dead sea salts. Fill the tub with warm water and immerse yourself. Add the essential oil mixture and swirl the water around you. Massage your skin and breathe in the aroma. Remain in the tub for 10-15 minutes.
Use a Roll-on for Zen Yoga or Meditation
I like using essential oil roll-ons when doing yoga. I apply the roll-on to the top of my feet, my wrists, or my chest. Since e3’s Zen Roll-on is already diluted, you can apply directly on your body — such as chest, torso, back of neck, shoulders, and bottom of feet. Before you begin your meditation practice, you can apply a small amount in the palm of your hands; cup your hands over your nose, and inhale the aroma.
Create a Zen Space for Yourself and Others
e3’s Zen Spritzers are ideal for wellness practitioners to enhance the grounding presence of their massage therapy room, yoga studio, therapy clinic, or meditation center. It can also be used at home if you and your family could use a little extra incentive to take deep, calming breaths. Spritzers are already diluted and easy to use. Mist as high up in the room as you can, this allows the mist to fall through a greater volume of airspace.
And one extra tip that we all can use. Take a few moments each day for deep breathing aromatherapy zen moments. You can use an aromatherapy inhaler, aromatherapy diffuser bracelet, or simply place 2-4 drops of Zen blend on a tissue and pull it out when you need it. Close your eyes, take deep slow breaths, and allow the aroma to help you ground yourself.
